Well Control for Supervisors on Land or Offshore Rigs

A valid email address.
Prior certification at driller level or above.

The IADC WellSharp Drilling Supervisory course is essential training for those working in wellsite supervisory roles and for office-based personnel that are primarily involved in the operational decision-making process and/or well design. The course aims to build on Level 3 course content (including kick detection and shut-in) and focus on more complex aspects of well control and well kill methodology.

Please visit the IADC website or information about the program.

IADC training levels Introductory to Supervisor are designed to be sequential and first-time candidates are expected to complete an IADC WellSharp driller level course (or equivalent) before progressing to supervisory level. However, the training levels are also designed to be role-specific and dependent on the candidate’s work experience. For guidance and advice on which level of training you are eligible for, please get in touch.

Designed For

The Supervisor level course is designed for anyone working in a supervisory role and involved in the well design and operational decision-making process of drilling, such as a Drilling Supervisor, Superintendent or Company Man, Tool Pusher, OIM, or Rig Manager.

Course Delivery

Courses are offered every week in both Western and Eastern Canada and begin the Monday of each week. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss a customized schedule.

The 5-day course is delivered through presentation of a series of interactive lectures supported by videos and animations, group discussion, and drilling simulation exercises, supplemented by a classroom workbook and further self-study exercises. The course ends with an online assessment on the final day which will be administered by IADC and invigilated by an independent proctor.

Note: In the IADC WellSharp program, IADC Supervisor Level candidates are taught in a separate class compared to the IADC Driller level candidates.

Candidates may select either "Surface & Subsea" or “Surface Only” BOP Stack certification. Successful completion of the course and a pass mark of 70% or above on the written assessment and the simulator assessment will result in the IADC WellSharp certification which is valid for two years.
